I want to alert any of the membership that places nurses in South Carolina of another issue that has affected HCCA nurses.
The South Carolina Board of Nursing sent one of our nurses a letter on the Friday prior to her starting orientation stating that her Employer Verification Form was not accepted. When we followed up the BON notified us that they no longer accept Employer Verifications from foreign hospitals and that we could submit a verification from a U.S. hospital, or the nurse could complete 30 hours of CE units. Obviously if a nurse if just arriving in the U.S. they will not be able to provide employment verification from a U.S. hospital, so we had to go the 30 CE route. We have also had to have all future nurses coming to that state to complete this requirement.
Like the IELTS issue, this was not listed on the South Carolina Board of Nursing’s applications or website. In fact we have had five nurses licensed in that state in the past three months and it has never been an issue. The BON has been essentially unresponsive to our inquiries and HCCA is exploring filing a complaint in the near future. We cannot decide whether they have an issue with us or with foreign trained nurses, however I understand their PT board is equally difficult.
If anyone else is experiencing issues with the South Carolina Board of Nursing, please post them on the listserv. I would also like to hear from you as well. Evans
