A recent article in the New York Times about the problems the State of Georgia is having with the issuance and renewal of professional licenses underscores the need to begin the renewal process early. Georgia has recently added proof of legal presence in the US to it’s licensure documentation requirements. Click here for the full article. This is has caused significant delays in the processing of these applications based in part upon the fact that the renewal process was automated before but now requires the legal presence documentation for each application to be reviewed by an actual person, and in part upon the fact that many applicants are not submitting the correct records and must be contacted to provide additional information. As we see more states move in this direction, these types of delays will only increase.
